W. S. Badcock Corporation, one of the largest furniture retailers in the United States, recently introduced a new dealer contract that includes a ten-year term agreement for dealers who convert to the company’s new "Badcock & more" format. The new home-furnishing concept includes a product line of more than 4,000 items, a brighter, more spacious store display and a new logo. The new contract was developed during a yearlong joint effort by a contract committee made up of dealers and management. It was created to uphold new operating standards and enhance the long-term growth opportunities for Badcock & more dealers. The committee met in Tampa, Florida in late June to formalize the contract and celebrate their accomplishments. "As we convert to the Badcock & more concept, we felt that it was important to enhance the transition with a contract that increases the level of commitment between our dealers and management," said Mike Whitten, Badcock Director of Dealer Development. "We believe this contract will provide better financial opportunities for our dealers and will also recognize the greater commitment required for Badcock & more dealers." The ten-year agreement will be offered to current Badcock dealers as they convert to the new Badcock & more format and will be the contract for all future Badcock & more dealers. Because of the ten-year agreement, new dealers should have better financing options available than with the previous "30-day-out" agreement. The new contract includes improved business valuation methods and successor language more favorable to a dealer’s heirs. "For the past 80 years we have operated with a "30-day-out clause," said Don Marks, Badcock President. "We decided that we needed a term to recognize the investment a Badcock & more dealer was making." Badcock has more than 320 locations throughout the southeast. Of those, 70 have converted to Badcock & more, with 20 more converting by the end of the summer. Badcock is headquartered in Mulberry, Florida where the company was established in 1904.
