Libby Langdon, interior designer and expert commentator on the HGTV hit “Small Space, Big Style,” will be hosting a seminar on October 17th at the High Point Furniture Market. Her seminar, entitled “Courting Convertible Consumers: Maxing Out the Small Space Market,” will look into the rapidly growing market of small space consumers, their challenges, wants and the areas they are desperately looking for direction in. This consumer group varies from the college student in a dorm room to the empty nester looking to downsize and everything in between. Langdon, who founded her company Libby Interiors in 2003 and served as the host/designer of FOX makeover show “Design Invasion” in 2005, is often heard saying on “Small Space, Big Style” that dimensions only define the size of the space, not the style. “No matter the square footage, design and functionality should never be comprised,” says Langdon. “You just have to get creative and make the most of the space you have.” She believes that furniture manufacturers are beginning to tap into this trend but the need for stylish, convertible furniture that is also affordable is still there. “Based on my experience working with the small space consumer, I’m focused on design solutions that will be visually appealing, functional and will improve their lifestyle,” says Langdon. Langdon grew up in High Point, North Carolina and both of her parents worked in the furniture industry. The Market is something she has grown up with her entire life. “I’m so excited to come back and present this seminar and actually be a part of the Market,” says Langdon. “I’ll be experiencing it from an entirely different angle. Of course I’ll still be shopping for my current clients and it’s always so much fun to see the new items that are being introduced.” Langdon is coming off a very busy summer in which she was chosen by Hamptons Cottages and Gardens to design a junior guest suite in their famed Idea House. The room was a favorite among visitors and even landed the cover of the September issue of the magazine. Langdon also completed a waterfront home in Rhode Island, a Hamptons vacation home in Sagaponack, New York and an apartment in New York City overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The apartment was featured on the cover of Decorating Spaces and in the New York Times’s “Key” magazine. Langdon’s most recent projects have featured furniture pieces that are her own custom designs, everything from a bar to a bed. “I’ve designed these pieces because they needed to serve a purpose in a specific space but I also wanted them to be pleasing to the eye and have some personality,” said Langdon. “I love beautiful things but they should also be able to be part of a casual lifestyle.” Langdon will be speaking from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at the NHFA Retailer Resource Center.
