In conjunction with MIFF 2007, MIECO Chipboard Bhd will stage the very first MIECO Designer’s Choice Award 2007. The Award was initiated by MIECO Chipboard Bhd and is co-organised with MIFF Sdn Bhd. The objective of the Award is to promote and drive creativity and innovation in furniture incorporating particleboard into Malaysian furniture designs. This contest is open to furniture manufacturers that are based in Malaysia, as well as individual professionals and students from the Art & Design Institutes in Malaysia. There will be three furniture categories comprised of kitchen, office and home furniture. The MIECO Designer’s Choice Award also serves as a platform for potential and current furniture designers to display their creative designs and gain recognition. At the same time, it will also encourage designers to develop networks with local and overseas industry players, creating the opportunity to start or enhance careers. The competition will be judged by a selected panel of professionals and experts from reputable Interior Design houses, Art & Design Institutes and the Malaysian Society of Interior Design. Winners will be announced during the MIFF 2007 show. The finalists' furniture prototypes will be displayed at the main podium of the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) and other MIFF 2007 fairground venues. MIECO is the pioneer in particleboard manufacturing in Malaysia using rubber wood with three factories located within Malaysia. It also has the single largest particleboard line in the Asia-Pacific region. After establishing itself as dominant player in the domestic market, MIECO now exports to over 20 countries including China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, South East Asia, the Indian subcontinents, the Middle East, Africa, and the Australasian countries with a representative office in Guangzhou, China and a regional office in Hong Kong. The MIECO Designer’s Choice Award will complement the existing awards at MIFF that are held every year. These include the Furniture Excellence Award co-organised with the Malaysian Furniture Promotion Council (MFPC) and the Best Presentation Award co-organised with the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC). While the Furniture Excellence Award gives due recognition for innovation and creativity in furniture designs, the Best Presentation Award focuses on the recognition of efforts by exhibitors on the creativity and innovation of booth designs at MIFF. The Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2007 will be held from 6 - 10 March 2007 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and the MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
