The New York Chapter of IFDA (the International Furnishings and Design Association) will offer the latest program in its series, "Profiles of Achievers," at a cocktail event to be held on Tuesday, June 25th. The "achievers" who will be presented at this program are Chris Casson Madden and Jonathan Adler. Chris Casson Madden is a true industry success story. She is the author of several best-selling design books, including Bedrooms, her 14th and most recent book, and her landmark book, A Room of Her Own: Women’s Personal Spaces. For the past seven years, she has hosted "Interiors by Design with Chris Casson Madden," her very popular interior design program on HGTV. Her furniture collection which she created for Bassett, introduced in Spring 2000, is now the company’s biggest seller, supplemented by a youth furniture collection this year. She also has several other licensed products in her home collection. She writes a weekly newspaper column for Scripps Howard, seen in 360 newspapers nationwide, and has written for a wide range of consumer publications. She is considered one of the most influential women in interior design today. Jonathan Adler is a well-known designer of decorative accessories, which are sold in the finest retail outlets throughout the US, including three stores of his own. His design odyssey began when he developed an interest in throwing pots at an early age, taking his inspiration from a wide range of design genres. His business flourished when Barney’s, the prestigious specialty store, began selling his pots. Later he developed a collection of decorative pillows, working with local weavers on unique textiles. Since 1997, he has been affiliated with Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization that helps artisans in developing countries to make products for the US market. This popular series of events, under the auspices of IFDA’s Professional Development Committee, has included such industry leaders as internationally-recognized interior designer Clodagh, and Sherry Donghia, the design force behind the Donghia company. The program will be held between 5:30 and 7:30 PM at the New York Merchandise Mart, 41 Madison at 26th Street, in the lower level conference room. Refreshments will be provided by the Merchandise Mart. For information and reservations, call the IFDA office at 212-686-6020.
