The Summer & Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association has named the finalists in its annual Apollo Awards program recognizing retail excellence. Finalists must demonstrate outstanding accomplishments and commitment to customer service. A winner will be named in each of three categories at a gala awards banquet Sept. 14 during the International Casual Furniture & Accessories Market in Chicago. The SCFMA and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. are co-sponsors of the event. This year’s finalists are as follows: Single Store Category • Broadway Furniture, Denver • Casual Marketplace, Hockessin, Del. • Greenhouse Mall, Austin, Texas • Patios Plus, Rancho Mirage, Calif. • Williams All Season, Highland Park, Ill. Multi-Store Category • Carls Patio, Boca Raton, Fla. • Georgia Backyard, Suwanee, Ga. • Patio Enclosures, Macedonia, Ohio • Patio World, Chatsworth, Calif. • Treasure Island, Mahwah, N.J. International Store Category • Ambiente Moderno, Catano, Puerto Rico • Beachcomber, Vernon, British Columbia • Jardin de Ville de Patio Rama Bourque, Blainville, Quebec SCFMA member companies will select the winners in August. Previously, winners were chosen at the SCFMA Board of Directors and membership meeting in Chicago just prior to the Casual Show. This year, information packages on each of the finalists will be mailed to SCFMA member companies in July. Each company will be allowed one vote in each of the categories, and they will submit their votes by mail, e-mail or fax. Commenting on the change, Joseph P. Logan, executive director of the SCFMA, said, "Because of feedback we had received in the past, we changed the method of how the winner is chosen to ensure that we are being as fair as possible to all parties involved. In addition, we wanted all our member companies to have the opportunity to participate in the selection process." The Summer & Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association is headquartered in High Point, N.C. – the furniture capital of the world – and represents more than 80 leading U.S. manufacturers of summer and casual products.
