Bush Industries, Inc. announced that, in compliance with the Federal WARN Act, the company had communicated upcoming changes related to operations at it’s Erie, Pennsylvania facility. On or about February 19, 2007 Bush Industries will begin implementing its plan to consolidate some operations from the Erie facility into its Jamestown, NY facility. All distribution, logistics and certain strategic manufacturing operations will remain in Erie. “As economic conditions change, so must all successful businesses and Bush Industries is no exception. We continue to expand our manufacturing and supply chain in Asia and Europe, which requires us to consolidate some domestic operations. This is an extension of our long range strategy to align our manufacturing capabilities with the global demands of the market place.” said James L. Sherbert, President and CEO of Bush Industries. “Our Global Sourcing Group is an integral part of Bush’s product leadership. Our goal is to create innovative products at the best possible value to meet the expressed needs of the marketplace. We have our fully functioning Global Sourcing office in place, complete with design, engineering, quality control and scheduling, which will allow this transition to go smoothly. Additionally, it is important to note that all manufacturing capabilities that differentiate Bush remain intact.” The Erie facility was established in 1996 and consists of 1.1 million square feet of manufacturing, distribution and office space. Currently there are 270 employees of which approximately 90 will be affected by the action. Bush Industries, Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture for home and office, as well as a supplier of diverse surface technologies. The company is headquartered in Jamestown, NY, with manufacturing plants and offices in New York State, Pennsylvania, China and Germany.
