Tempur-Pedic International Inc., a leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of premium mattresses and pillows worldwide, announced the official grand opening of a new manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This state-of-the-art facility, just over 800,000 sq. ft., is the world’s largest mattress factory. Tempur-Pedic’s new plant, the company’s second facility in the United States, will meet its growing manufacturing needs for the western United States. Construction began on the $95+ million facility in September 2004. It is located on a 50 acre site on Paseo Del Volcan in Northwest Albuquerque. “This new facility will enhance our efficiency and allow us to keep up with the growing consumer demand for Tempur-Pedic® products,” said H. Thomas Bryant, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tempur-Pedic. “With the help of the state of New Mexico, we’ve built the world’s largest manufacturing facility for mattresses while providing jobs for hundreds of Americans.” Tempur-Pedic eventually plans to manufacture the company’s complete line of mattresses out of the Albuquerque facility to service the needs of the western US. Along with Bryant, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Congresswoman Heather Wilson and members of the Albuquerque business community plan to attend the plant’s dedication ceremony this afternoon. The company also announced it would be donating beds to charities in the Albuquerque area. For 2007, the company is making donations to Casa Esperanza (www.casaesperanzanm.org), a facility that houses the families of people undergoing cancer treatment at hospitals throughout Albuquerque and Barrett House (www.barrettfoundation.org), a 45-bed facility that provides emergency and short-term shelter to homeless women and children. “Tempur-Pedic made a promise two years ago to not only make a significant contribution in terms of employment and tax base, but to also be an involved citizen. They’ve made good on those promises today,” said Governor Bill Richardson. “New Mexico is ranked 12th highest in the nation in job creation and Tempur-Pedic’s decision to expand their production in the United States is helping us continue that momentum.” Tempur-Pedic’s original U.S. plant opened in Duffield, Virginia in September 2001 and was expanded in 2003. The company also expanded its Denmark plant in 2004 to meet growing demand for Tempur-Pedic products in Europe and Asia. About the Company: Tempur-Pedic International Inc.
