According to the City of High Point, Lifestyle Enterprise, Inc., has paid the City $1.665 million to purchase a site for a showroom/office building. The 1.52-acre site, appraised at the purchase price, is located behind the current Forbidden City Museum showroom in the 300-block of E. Commerce Ave. It is used as a city employee parking lot. According to its contract with the city, Lifestyle will build a $10 million showroom/office building, which will be completed by October 2009. If construction has not begun by December 1, the city has the option to buy the property back for the same price. The city is working out the details for relocating the employee parking lot and the utilities payment drive-thru, which is located in the lot. According to City Attorney Fred Baggett, an announcement about the relocation will be made in mid-March.
