DuPont Textiles & Interiors (DTI) completed its purchase of the Vicunha Group’s share of Fibra DuPont, a joint venture formed in 1994. As an integral subsidiary of DTI, Fibra DuPont – the largest Brazilian producer of polyamide – brings with it a state-of-the-art T-95 platform for Type 6,6 and 6 nylon. “This investment will allow us to better service our customers in South America and allow them global access to the expansive network of global resources DTI offers. It also gives our global customer base opportunities to import product from South America. This further represents our commitment to a consumer driven business model which allows us to operate in a fast, flexible and focused way to meet the needs of the apparel industry,” said Bill Ghitis, president, DTI Global Apparel. In the past two years, DTI has invested over $200 million dollars into strengthening its products, production and brands in South America. The investment to acquire Fibra DuPont shares is the most recent in a series of significant programs in Brazil, including HOTEL LYCRA®, a new advertising and promotional campaign for the LYCRA® brand in TV, retail, outdoor and print, and its plant expansion in Paulina. Fibra DuPont produces approximately 30,000 tons of polyamide per year. It has more than 1,000 employees and manufacturing sites in Americana (Sao Paulo/Brazil) and Mercedes (Argentina). DuPont Textiles & Interiors (DTI) is the largest integrated fiber business in the world, with approximate annual revenues of $6.3 billion, operating in 50 countries. Headquartered in Wilmington, Del., it is comprised of three businesses: Apparel; Interiors and Industrial; and Intermediates.
