The American Craft Council announced that its Deputy Director, Andrew Glasgow, has assumed immediate day-to-day responsibilities of Acting Executive Director. Former Executive Director Carmine Branagan resigned earlier this month to pursue new opportunities.
Marc Grainer, Chair of the Council’s Board of Trustees, said: “Carmine made many positive contributions to the Council; she has certainly raised the visibility and reputation of the Council during her five-year tenure. In addition to her leadership and insight, the Council now has a dynamic management team in place to execute and expand the scope on its exciting series of programs for years to come.” He added: “The Board is delighted to have Andrew at the helm of the Council; he brings a wealth of experience as a strategic leader, and his knowledge of and passion for the field of craft is unparalleled.”
Andrew Glasgow has been a leader in the craft field for nearly 20 years, most recently Executive Director of The Furniture Society (Asheville, NC), which saw enormous growth during his tenure.
Prior to The Furniture Society, Glasgow held the positions of Director of Education and Collections at Southern Highland Craft Guild at the Folk Art Center and Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts at Birmingham Museum of Art. Glasgow has sat on the advisory boards of the Fuller Craft Museum, the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, and the San Francisco Museum of Art + Design, and has held trustee positions on the boards of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, UNC at Asheville. He is also a well-regarded curator, lecturer, and essayist.
“It’s an exciting time to be at the Council. We have so many new programs and initiatives already in place,” said Glasgow. “The recently re-designed AMERICAN CRAFT magazine and the reinvigorated shows are wonderful assets to develop even greater new audiences for craft.”
