Gene Winters, Globe Express Services’ VP Sales, will present ideas on how furniture importers can reduce their landed costs through overseas warehousing and consolidation. This exciting new distribution model for the furniture industry holds tremendous savings for both manufacturers/suppliers and retailers. By consolidating mixed direct container orders overseas (multiple suppliers, POs, SKUs), furniture importers can significantly lower their inventory carrying and order fulfillment costs. This program enables importers to bypass more expensive U.S. distribution centers and improve cycle times by facilitating direct container deliveries. Overseas consolidation centers also serve as inventory “buffer zones,” relieving the problems associated with suppliers cutting larger orders than can be effectively received in U.S. distribution centers. Instead of storing goods in U.S. warehouses until they’re needed, importers can take advantage of lower handling, storage and order fulfillment cost overseas.
