Furnitureland South, the world’s largest home furnishings showplace, recently debuted its new $15 million distribution center. The renovation added 225,000 square feet to the existing 250,000 square foot distribution center – with the new building totaling 475,000 square feet. The center, which will also house Furnitureland South’s corporate office, is the end result of a project that began more than two years ago. Beginning in 2003, Furnitureland South realized the need for long-term growth within its distribution capabilities and began planning for the new state-of-the-art center. The facility allows Furnitureland South greater capacity to process high-end home furnishings and then deliver them all over the world, a standard unmatched in the industry. “Everything we put into this facility was designed to improve the furniture buying experience for our customers,” said Jeff Harris, executive vice president, Furnitureland South. “The new distribution center is truly a testament to Furnitureland South’s commitment to providing top quality products and service to our customers all around the world.” Features of the new facility include: - Additional staging space that allows all of the home furnishings to be inspected and deluxed prior to delivery which will speed up the delivery cycle so that customers will get their furniture faster. - Climate-control to keep all furniture at an ideal temperature to prevent the splitting of wood products. - Finishing-spray booth to give furniture a smoother, more consistent finish Complete workshop onsite to quickly repair any damages and improve customer satisfaction. - Bright, clean white walls and organized racking system to improve working conditions for employees and execute a more efficient shipping process for customers. - Increased recycling capabilities to allow for Furnitureland South to recycle more than 500 tons of cardboard annually, as well as an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) recycling machine to condense and recycle Styrofoam packing materials. - Beautifully decorated lobby area for customers waiting to pick up products Redesigned corporate offices equipped with a white noise system to improve employee working conditions. - Strategic facility layout, such as housing the customer service department directly beside the shipping area to allow representatives to see returned products first hand in order to better assist customers. As Furnitureland South has continued to see steady growth over the past several years, the new distribution center is designed to manage sustained growth. There is approximately 35,000 square feet of unused space to allow for greater expansion. “Many companies out there are unfortunately dealing with the difficult economic conditions that exist right now,” said Jason Harris, executive vice president, Furnitureland South. “We are proud that even in this economic climate, we are still able to significantly invest in our business to improve service for our customers, which is always our top priority.” About Furnitureland South: Furnitureland South is the world’s largest home furnishings showplace with more than 1.1 million square feet of showroom space.
