The California Furniture Manufacturers Association (CFMA) completed its 1999 Labor Compensation Survey with the help of members and non-members who provided vital information regarding 45 surveyed job titles with specifics about company benefits as well as employee hourly rates and company wage scales. The survey covers general, metal, upholstery, leather, case goods and bedding manufacturing. The survey conveys essential details for use as a tool when analyzing compensation practices within the furniture industry; a crucial aid with today's three percent unemployment rate. Prepared by Royce Survey & Assessment Services, the survey was distributed to members and non-members within the industry. Forty-nine respondents provided information regarding 4,558 incumbents for the job titles. In May 1999, the survey was distributed to manufacturers for compensation and other related information. All information reported in this survey reflects data as of March 31, 1999. The surveyed companies were from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties. The majority of respondents (33 percent) had 50 employees or less. The companies with 51 to 100 employees accounted for another 31 percent of the responses. The Labor Compensation Survey can be purchased by CFMA Members for $139 and by Non-Members at $249. CFMA consists of over 120 furniture manufacturers and suppliers throughout the Western United States. The association's mission is to educate, promote, and protect the interests of furniture manufacturers.
